If I asked you if you were willing to walk 21 miles in a day to get to and from work, most of you would look at me like I was crazy. In today’s generation, many of us would NOT even acknowledge this to be a reality. We wake up every day and drive to school, work, and any other daily activities that we are involved in. So I will ask again, would you be willing to walk 21 miles per day to get to and from work?
James Robertson, a Detroit resident, has been walking 21 miles to work every day since 2005 when his Honda Accord stopped working. Public transportation does not cover his full commute, so he walked 8 miles to his factory job in Rochester Hills, Michigan and then another 13 miles home to Detroit. Despite these challenges, he still maintained a perfect attendance. When asked what got him through this every day, he said, “I can’t imagine not working.” Every day of this man’s life was a tribute to his job, boss, and co-workers. Did I mention that he is 56 years old and is paid $10.55 an hour? I also forgot to mention his last comment. Robertson said, “I should have told you there’s another thing: DETERMINATION!”
